Math
At Waynesville Middle School, Math instruction begins with conceptualized instruction. We utilize OpenUp, a conceptual math curriculum, as our framework for math instruction, in addition to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study- Math. Be sure to look at the family resources offered on their site, as well as videos of lesson summaries. These are great resources to review with your mathematician at home and continue the math conversation.
Science
Our instructional model for Science launches from the Stile curriculum. Paired with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study- Science, Stile allows teachers to create highly engaging lessons that blend direct instruction with collaborative lessons that call for students to respond with digital, hands-on, and print activities. Curiosity of the world’s natural phenomenon is the leader of this content.
English Language Arts
Waynesville Middle School continues to lean on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study- English Language Arts and Amplify’s ELA science of reading informed middle school curriculum to meet student needs for Language Arts instruction. Independent reading at home, blended with in-class excerpt studies, targeted skill strategies, and literary analysis are just a portion of the instructional framework we use with middle school students.
Social Studies
Our Social Studies Department uses the North Carolina Standard Course of Study- Social Studies as well as district collaboratively created materials and resources to offer the best education about or past to help raise greater citizens for our future.
Exceptional Children Programming
We aim to meet the needs of all students! In an effort to know the need and meet the need, we offer both specialized instruction for students with specific learning disabilities and needs as identified through the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or other specific plans based on student needs. We are honored to learn about the individual needs of our students and strive to meet each of those needs through student support services, educational opportunities, and resources from a wide variety of specialists within our school district. We have the privilege of hosting a Sustained Support and an Intensive Intervention Program at our school along with Resource and Inclusion style classrooms.
Project Child Find
The Office of Exceptional Children, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is looking for children ages 3 to 21, who may be a child with a disability in need of special education and related services. The North Carolina Infant and Toddler Program, in coordination with private and public referral sources, hospitals, and physicians is looking for infants and toddlers ages birth to 3, who are in need of early intervention services.

- Cognitive Diabilities
- Behavioral Disabilities
- Developmental Disabilities
- Learning Disabilities
- Speech/ Language Disabilities
- Multiple Disabilities including children with vision, hearing, or medical impaiments

Encores
Waynesville Middle offers a variety of enriching encores that allow students to explore future careers and current interests. We offer:
- Band
- Introduction to Computer Science/ Computer Science Discoveries
- S.T.E.M. ( Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math exploration)
- Health and Physical Education
- Chorus ( including a performance choir)
