Ennis Marcus, a sixth grader at Waynesville Middle School, won 2nd place in the NC Division of Soil and Water Conservation’s state essay contest. This year’s contest theme was “We All Live in a Watershed”. Ennis’ essay won the District contest and the Area 1 (16 westernmost counties) contest before moving onto the state contest. She was the only participant from Area 1 to win at a state level contest. The NC Division of Soil and Water Conservation sponsors several contests each year for students in grades three through ninth. Attached is her picture.
