Our students recently participated in Waynesville Middle’s second annual Reading Olympics. Students read books and quizzed on those books, accruing as many words as possible between January 28 and February 11. Not only did the students compete for the most words read, but teams within the school competed against each other.
The winning team was Mrs. Laurie Bass’s Team 3 from 6th grade. The students on Team 3 read a total of 7,442,422 words within the two week time frame!
The total for individual students was very impressive, also.
Overall winners for all grades were:
1st place – Malachi Sparks (814,256 words), 2nd place – Alexander Caldwell (808,209 words), 3rd place – Katherine Clark (725,109)
The winners at each grade level were:
6th grade: 1st place – Katherine Clark, 2nd place – Noah Stiggins, 3rd place – Zabdiel Consuelos
7th grade: 1st place – Alexander Caldwell, 2nd place – Lilian Seymour, 3rd place – Teagan Laursen
8th grade: 1st place – Malachi Sparks, 2nd place – Corie Bennett, 3rd place – Connor Adams
