On January 21, band students from all over Western North Carolina came together
to audition for a spot in the annual District Honors Band. The band is comprised of
the top musicians from each school from as far East as McDowell County to as far
West as the North Carolina and Tennessee state line.
Among those auditioning were students from Waynesville Middle School who had
spent countless hours in the band room during and after school as well as time at
home learning solos, perfecting their scales, and preparing for their auditions.
When all was said and done WMS band students were well represented with 18
students securing a seat in the band. Two or these students, Kacy Vandenbergh (8 th
grade) and Elira Bego-Cardoso (8 th grade), qualify to audition for the All State
Honors Band in early March.
The weekend prior to the all district auditions WMS students also participated in
auditions for the Western Region Jazz Band. Josh Deane (8 th grade) earned a spot
with one of the bands and will be playing trombone with the band the weekend of
February 3-4 at Asheville High School.
Directors Adam Stewart and Jaime Graeber are extremely proud of the work these
students have put forth to prepare for the auditions and for the way they
represented the band program and Waynesville Middle School. Students will
participate in the All District Band clinic held at Western Carolina University on
